September 2nd, The Boeing 747-400 awaits us to take us to Johannesburg. We got the last two seats on the KL593 :-)
My seat for take off is right behind captain Van der Linden (no relative of Pat, unfortunately)
Later on, Pat is also allowed to have a glimps in the cockpit and while cruising over the Sahara desert, the KL594 (Cape Town-Amsterdam) is about to shoot by on its way back to Schiphol.
The sun rises over the South African desert...
Our free upgrade, a beautiful white Toyota Condor. Eight seats should be enough for us :-).
Yesterday in chilly Holland, now lunch in the shade of the palmtrees, on our way towards Hazyview (next to Krugerpark).
On our way to Hazyview we visit the biggest Dollarmite caves, the Sudwala caves / grotte.
How beautiful nature can be...
... can be ...
... can be...
Our group was only 5 persons. A private tour :-)
Our first in a series of weird traffic signs, the hippo warning near Hippo Hollow. No joke...
We are granted a beautiful cottage at the Sunbird farm bed and breakfast.
From our window the hills light up with several forest fires...
After about 10 hours of flying and 400 km of driving, including a cave visit, we finally settle with a homecooked welcome meal made by our host Trevor.
Our "petite" cottage
Day 2, we make the touristic route along the northern stretch of the Drakensberg, here Pinnacle Rock.
Enjoying our wintervacation :-)
